Dress code: schools opt for unrealed uniform

"Adjusted" cut instead of "feminine"."Basketball" shorts instead of "male".Unrealed uniforms will enter around fifty secondary schools this fall.

"Young people are passionate about that," notes Tammy Hattem, co -founder of Raphaël U.

This school uniform company has reshaped its catalog this year so as to offer unrealed options to students.

Mixed clothing pieces have been added and several terminologies have been reviewed.

For example, short shorts is no longer described as "feminine", but "soccer" model, compared to the "basketball" model which is longer. And both models are offered to boys.

Courtoisie

Skirt boys

Last October, adolescents from several schools arrived in class dressed in a skirt to support their female colleagues denouncing clothing rules deemed sexist. The movement has become viral.

"It really scored us.

At the Héritage college, in Châteauguay, in Montérégie, the management was arrested.

"Students are very politicized [...] We listened to them, ”says the managing director, Paul side.

The newspaper was able to speak to Emma Loiselle, one of the students who addressed management.

"Often the argument against, that is to say that there is no guy [currently] who wants to wear the skirt. But why wait until there is one case that is manifested [before thinking about it]?"Asks the 17 -year -old.

"Honestly, I'm proud," sums up the one who begins Cégep this year. She is still delighted to see that her efforts will benefit the youngest.

Not an obligation

No, no, no," she says laughing. But overall, the reaction is positive.

Besides, it is not 100 % of the catalog which is unreed, she specifies.A girl who wants to dress typically feminine or a boy looking for typically male will meet there.

"The important thing is how you feel in your cut.»»
