Italian stylist Nino Cerruti died at the age of 91

Cerruti, who was born in Biella, one of Italy's main textile centers, was a key figure in the international fashion industry, highly respected and known for his elegance, kindness and polite manners .

"For the family, collaborators, friends and management of Lanificio Cerruti and for Italian fashion, today is a sad day because with the death of Mr. Nino, the world loses a talented man, a designer extraordinaire, a visionary ahead of his time and a great mentor to whom many are indebted," Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti said in a statement.

His grandfather had founded a textile factory in Biella in 1881, the Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti. With a background in producing excellent fabrics, Cerruti moved into garment production in the late 1950s.

His first men's collection, Hitman, was introduced in 1957 and was considered groundbreaking in menswear at the time, as Cerruti is credited with pioneering the deconstructed men's jacket.

Cerruti's menswear line was launched in 1967 and was followed by a womenswear collection a year later.

The first Cerruti boutique opened in 1967 on Place de la Madeleine in Paris, where Cerruti moved the company's headquarters in order to be closer to the international fashion capital. Fabric production under the Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti name and the Hitman label remain in Italy.

Cerruti, Lanificio Cerruti de Biella and Hitman, based in Corsico, together form Fratelli Cerruti, the group of the Cerruti brothers.

Over the years, Cerruti has offered women's and men's clothing, the Cerruti 1881 diffusion line, a luxury ready-to-wear collection called Cerruti Arte, Cerruti Jeans, the business collection of the Brothers Cerruti for men as well as perfumes and accessories. Later, the clothing lines were consolidated under the name Cerruti 1881.

He had an eye for talent and recruited Giorgio Armani in 1964, who worked with Cerruti until 1970.

In the 1980s, Cerruti began a collaboration with the world of cinema. From "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Pretty Woman" to "Basic Instinct", the Cerruti brand has designed clothes for actors such as Michael Douglas, Jack Nicholson, Tom Hanks, Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts, Robert Redford, Harrison Ford, Al Pacino or Jean Paul Belmondo.
